“It’s no bother,” Persephone replied with a kind smile, already altering her course to guide the mare towards the Meadow and, further on, the Falls in the distance. “I’m on my way to the Peak, but they aren’t expecting me so nobody will be waiting.”

Persephone had always been a leader as long as she could remember – a precocious little child, she had almost come out of the womb with a self-assurance and confidence that rivalled women ten times her age. There had been relatively few horses in her lifetime that she had ever chosen to follow.

She was a natural born leader, although at times lately it didn’t always feel that way.

Persephone chuckled at Creed’s response. At the mention of a happily ever after, Persephone gave a smile. It seemed an almost childish notion to her, but it was a pleasant one, filled with a sense of hope.

“I wouldn’t go that far,” she replied. “But I’m not doing so badly for myself. I rule the Forest, on the island of Luthien. It’s a good feeling to call some place your own.”

She paused a moment, glancing at her companion.

“You would always be welcome to come and visit, or even to stay if you needed someplace. I keep my home open to those in need.”
