At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Now My Watch Begins; It Shall Not End Until My Death

Something was very different, and the male didn’t know what it was. There was something new to the air, something that he could find no explanation for. He had done nothing out of the ordinary, had just gone for a nap somewhere in the forest and woke up as if he was in this weird haze. Maybe he had slept through the night or something. Ghost had no way of knowing that he had been under a magical sleep for months…really a year had gone by. His body had been put into some trance where he could not wake but where he essentially became invisible. Others did not know he was there and thus could not harm him. His body was in a transient state where he did not need food or water and he could not die. But still the sun set and the moon came and he had no sense for how much time had truly passed. There would be no way for him to know until he saw his pups again and would see that they were older. Much older than him having slept through a full night. But Ghost had become exactly the thing he hated most in life. He had become his father.

Ghost still remembered how it was to grow up in a family of royalty being a bastard. He was unwanted and unloved by almost all. His father had always been kind to him, but it was clear that he was different than his true born son, Grey Wind. But Grey Wind had been more than kind to him, he was his true brother and best friend. The pair were inseparable, growing up and doing everything together. Grey Wind’s mother clearly hated Ghost, and he didn’t blame her knowing that he was not her natural son. Most of his other half siblings were kind enough to him, except for Lady who had the same views as their mother. Nymeria though had grown to look up to him, and the two would sneak off together to practice their battle training. Life then had been quite tolerable, despite having moments when he felt like a true unwanted outcast. But Ghost had vowed to never bear pups until he had a true mate and to only be with that one. He didn’t want to cause any to feel the way that he had felt before.

But then the exact thing he was avoiding came to be. He remembered coming across a mourning femme. One who was pretty enough but they did not even know each other. And then they had slept together and she had had pups. And she had died. So he was left to raise these poor creatures without a mother and without a home. Ghost was a wandered with no pack to call his own, and he had brought pups into this world like that. He felt incredibly selfish for giving in to his urges, even though the femme had begged him. If he had just walked away then those pups would not have been born and he wouldn’t have to face this moral dilemma. But he had done exactly what he feared he would and he left them. He came in and out of their lives, and he always found that they were doing fine on their own without him once they had been big enough to not be completely dependent. But really they still needed a family and he had abandoned them. Ghost should have been there to teach them about the world. To train them how to battle and how to hunt. How to track scents and how to conceal themselves. And instead he had just left them to their own devices. Hating himself for what he had done and what he had become, he avoided them even more. But he didn’t realize quite how long he had left them for.

The snow white male didn’t even notice where he had wandered off to or that it was now the middle of the night. He had just awoken and began wandering about, getting lost in his own head and thoughts. When a bark reached his auds, he turned to see who it was that had called out to him. There was no familiar scent in the air, in fact there was no scent in the air at all. A stranger came out through the trees, calling to him to try and not alarm him. There was something different about this brute before him. His eyes were an unnatural color of red, similar to his own. But this shade could never occur naturally, something was different. After a moment, Ghost realized that he was a vampire. After his encounter with Thackery he knew any wolf with no scent and those type of eyes could be nothing but a vampire. But it didn't bother him that he was being approached by one, it was not as if just because they were a vampire meant they were evil. He was not sure of the details as to why Thackery had to carry a dead body to a pack, but he didn't want to assume that the other male had done the killing. Any being could be a killer, vampire or otherwise. The stranger apologized if he interrupted a hunt, a kind enough gesture. ”No, I was not. I wasn’t doing anything to be honest.” The stranger went on to explain why he was here, and Ghost became confused. This brute didn't know anything about him, yet he wanted him to join this pack. What if Ghost was some sadistic murderer who would be a threat to their pack? Did this male think that just because he was a vampire he was the worst possible thing that could exist out there? Because Ghost knew that was not true in the slightest. He had encountered plenty of awful beings that were "normal". After awkwardly staring at the male for a long time, he finally decided that he believed his words and spoke. ”So what makes you want me to join?” He didn’t mean for his words to be rude or blunt. But he didn’t understand why anyone would want a wolf like him. He never stayed for those that needed him and he was terrible at commitment. Surely he would make a terrible pack wolf.
