Persephone dark eyes widened slightly in surprise at Tarek’s answer. So Evren was his aunt. The chances of meeting someone related to the latest addition to her herd seemed so small, the meeting seemed like fate. She smiled as she watched the pair greet each other, a sense of second-hand satisfaction warming her heart.

“A family reunion, then,” she replied, “even better.”

Before anyone could say anything else, however, Hannah spoke up. She looked more uncomfortable than before, and it seemed apparent that her labour was beginning. Evren leapt to the girl’s attention. It pleased Persephone to see her companion act with such compassion to a stranger, it reminded her of the good in life.

“Of course,” Persephone replied quickly, bobbing her head. “If you head through the trees this way, there’s a small clearing just through there.”

She gestured with her nose to one side, where a narrow path was visible through the shadows of the trees. She glanced between the three of them, curious to gauge Tarek’s reaction to what she could only assume was the birth of his child. She wondered if he were a calm parent, or one prone to panic. She looked to Evren, trying to thank her for her offer with a look.

“One of us can come with you, if you’d like, or would you prefer to go alone?”>
