So call me stupid, call me sad

How do I form a connection when we can't even shake hands?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxYou're like a phantom greeting me

Bahadir? A name to this handsome man before her. It is foreign yet seems as though it has the potential of rolling off her tongue. Could she sigh it or would it be one of those names that flowed like sweetened honey? A curious train of thought but one that Nereid could not help but contemplate. Names meant something to her. They all had a deeper meaning and she couldn’t help but wonder what his had to offer.

For a moment, she forgets that he is there. It is only the soft splat of his tail hitting his side that awakens her from her stupor. Warmth fills her cheeks as she realizes that she had lost herself within her mind again. “My name is Nereid, forsaken queen and daughter of no one.” It is almost embarrassing to utter this but lying would get her nowhere. She had once worn a crown of silver and now her forehead was bereft of any jewels.

She does not miss the way he holds himself, nor the eyes that continuously observe their surroundings. “Is everything alright? You do not seem at ease here.” It is easier to be direct than dance around a subject. It had been over two years since had last stepped upon these lands. Much could change and, though the wind whispered across her flesh and brought not a sound to bare but that of crashing waves, there was something off that she had not noticed before. Her frame tensed in response and her auds swivelled stiffly forward, listening with more intent than before.

“Are the commons still safe?” she questioned, a new note of seriousness painting her tone. One, two, three steps were taken to bring her deeper into the ocean’s embrace. The water splashed up against her knees and stomach now, as she unconsciously entrusted the waves with her safety
