Rowena

If Elvria had come to Rowena airing her grievances without a physical assault and loaded threats, Rowena would have listened, but now, as Elvira actively seeks to harm her, Rowena isn't inclined to give in to any demands.

The fact of the matter is, Rowena didn't know she was going to challenge for her freedom. Running into Dances in the Ridge was altogether unexpected for the both of them. Rowena didn't see hide nor hair of her daughter after that encounter, but she saw Osiris. She had to take the chance and issue her challenge before Osiris caught winds of her plans, or her own behaviors betrayed her intent. Osiris' overconfidence is what ultimately won Rowena her freedom. To clue Osiris in, and give herself the time to lose her nerve, and Rowena would still be in the Ridge today, pining over what could have been. None of this was premeditated like Elvira seems to think it was. It all happened in a rush, a blur of events spanning mere hours.

Maybe if Elvira had given Rowena any indication that she was in distress, needed extra support, Rowena would have given it. They may never know. But when last they saw each other Elvira was settling into a life with Bjorn, having apparently accepted her fate. She was not distressed, or desperate for Rowena's help or attention. She gave no indication that she might completely go off the deep end. Rowena is a capable mare, but mind reading does not fall into the realm of her capabilities.

"So you suggest I do all the work? I'm not the one with a problem. You are. If you need me, you come find me and talk." It's shocking Elvira has made it this far in life without developing a sense of personal responsibility. Again, Rowena blames herself for not cutting the apron strings sooner. This behavior only leaves Rowena less inclined to follow her back to the Ridge. Elvira clearly needs a teaching moment, and giving in to her demands will only prolong her dependence and teach her that it's okay to beat the tar out of someone to get your way.

Rowena feels Elvira's weight fall away from her haunch, and lets out a breath with a hiss. She spins on her heel, looming over Elvira as she struggles to her feet. "This. What you're doing right now. This isn't talking. This is unacceptable behavior. No daughter of mine will disrespect me like this." Rowena's eyes narrow on Elvira. "Go. Get out of here, and come back when you're ready to talk like the adult you are."
