Luck or fate had smiled on the boy when his hooves first touched the sands of a tropical island. Moisture was not whisked away from his pelt, in fact it clung to him, but cold chills did not lick his body as it would have if he had pulled himself into a more wintery air. Instead of cold, his body trembled slightly from pure exhaustion and fear. This luck and that of having found something sweet and edible had him almost forgetting that he needed to be wary of his strange surroundings. Instead, he ate munched away with a vengeance, replenishing his lost stores of energy.

Ravenous hunger satiated he finally looked up only to find an adult approaching him. At first fear gripped him and he spun, landing with his legs played. He faced the mare, head low in apology for being caught in on a land that was not his and expecting a blow of rebuke. His eyes watched the mare approach, taking in her while his ears twitched backwards uncertainly. The smile on her lips put him at ease enough that he straightened up. Curiosity had him unconsciously sticking his nose out, eyes flickering on the smiling lips, watching them move from the smile and into words. He blinked and tilted his head, face falling with his ears in frustration. Just a smile would have been easier, a smile he could understand. A smile would have kept him home and none of this would have happened.

Still unsure of what was about to befall him, Zeru stepped back and shifted uncomfortably. He gave a soft, squeaky, squeal; uncertain if it was loud enough or too loud. He brought his head back down to the grass and lipped at it, eyes still up at the mare, hoping she was not as angry as stallions usually are at the sight of him. If only she would smile again, he would know he was safe.
