Most of you have probably seen the discussion below and on Discord. As of posting this announcement, that thread will be deleted. Please do not think of this as ‘hiding’ your complaints, but this kind of thread is not appropriate for the public OOC board. We have saved screenshots of each post to refer to and address each issue separately.
Firstly, I want to begin by apologising to those members or visitors to the site who witnessed the conflict on the OOC board and in the Discord if you found any of it hurtful or uncomfortable. The moderators are not able to monitor every post and message, and especially not as soon as it is posted. Unfortunately, we are just two people (in a different time zone to many of you), and are unable to monitor every player interaction, so situations get missed unless players bring them forward. We cannot help you unless you help us by letting us know when something is troubling you, even if you think it is only a small issue at the time.
Next, I want to state that the behaviour seen last night was completely unacceptable. This is a game, where people come to be creative and have fun. There is absolutely no excuse for the kind of hostile atmosphere that was created. Name-calling and accusations are not okay – ever – especially over disagreements about rules, which we often have player discussions and votes on. A debate is a calm discussion, it should not make anyone feel bad or upset. Whether valid or not, this is not how complaints should be presented, and in particular a complaint about bullying should not turn into a thread bullying other players. Everyone here is not just a name on a screen, they are a person and should be treated with basic respect and interacted with in a civil manner.
TLI works on a 3-warning system, we only ban people as a last resort if they have received 3 formal warnings and still do not improve. We give formal warnings to player when behaviour is serious or recurring, and/or a polite chat with them is not enough to correct it.
We do not publicise the private discussions we have with other players, or any actions that may be taken against them, because it is unprofessional and the act of ‘shaming’ members is not only unkind but counterproductive to fostering a community. However, please do not take this to mean that we have not tried to address things that you may have brought to our attention. Please also exercise patience with us, we have busy and full lives of which TLI is just one part, sometimes there can be a delay in addressing an issue or acting on player feedback, but this does not mean we are not listening.
You are always welcome to report any issues or incidents with other players IC or OOC to the staff email, or to either of the Global Mods on Discord. Feel free to add us both to the conversation, if you wish, or to come forward with another member if that makes you more comfortable.
Finally, I would like to sincerely apologise if any of you have ever felt that you were not heard or did not have your complaint taken on board. We can assure you that we have acted wherever we have felt mod involvement was necessary based on the complaints we have received. As for some of the more recent complaints that surfaced today, which we were not aware of, we would like to urge you to send an email or discord message noting these and with any proof you may have so that we can take our next action.
