black ocean cold and dark;

alternate text He is restless, as most stallions are during this time of year. The Prairie is still heavy with grief, and Balor has found it best to allow the remnants of the herd to process their loss in their own ways. He has spent much time patrolling the borders of his new home and giving the inhabitants their space. Still, he hesitates to leave them. He knows,however, that he does not leave them without protection. So, reluctantly, he lets the sea swallow him.

He is no stranger to the Crossing. For a time the Falls and the Meadow were the closest thing to home he had. But loneliness had grown boring, and he had grieved his losses long enough. A different stallion walks those familiar trails today than the one that had washed up on these shores broken and without direction.

There is always a tension here in the Commons. Perhaps this is because fate is felt more strongly here than anywhere else on the sprawling archipelago. Many have been washed ashore here after leaving the mainland. Those who venture here have surrendered themselves, knowingly or not, to chance. As of late, these types of gambles have favored the mahogany bay stallion.

His mismatched gaze plucks a mother and daughter from the senescing grasses not far off. He watches them for a moment before deciding to approach.

“You looked like you could use some company.” He says with a rakish smile that cuts handsomely across his storied face. He doesn’t bother to tell her the things she surely already knows - namely the dangers of the Commons during autumn. She seems the kind that can hold her own, judging by the watchful, calculating look in her eyes. That, coupled with the scent of the Peak that clings to her skin has him curious and hungry all at once.

“I am Balor.” He says with a slight dip of his head. “What shall I call you lovely ladies?” He asks, careful not to forget the young filly. He gives her a twinkly smile before his eyes return to her dam. She is what he is here for, she should know.
