Eadaz let out a short, sharp laugh at Akello’s mention of the Prairie. Of course, on one of their expeditions to another island, they should meet someone heading straight for their homeland. Even Sabran gave a small smile of amusement at the coincidence, and shared a knowing glance with her sister.
“That’s so weird!” Eadaz began, shaking her head with a grin “We live on Luthien – in the Forest. Our dad used to rule the Prairie, actually, so we’ve spent a lot of time there, too.”
Eadaz paused a moment, turning her attention then instead to where Akello had come from. It was exciting, exotic almost, to meet someone who had travelled to another of the islands. She was glad to have met such an interesting subject on her own travels today, and one who was easy-going enough to answer her questions good-naturedly.
“What’s Salem like? I’ve never been there before,” she asked, tilting her head.
Sabran and her sister listened with interest as he spoke of his colouring. Eadaz’s eyes were wide with fascination, and even Sabran nodded along with curiosity. As she caught the smile Akello returned her, she felt a flush of warmth run across her skin. She felt at once both sheepish and more comfortable in his presence.
“They’re very unusual,” she commented, pulling together the courage to join in the conversation. “Maybe we’ll run into each other often if you’re staying on Luthien for a while. How do you like the Prairie?
Eadaz glanced between her sister and Akello, nodding her head in agreement at the question.
