He was glad Solomon seemed to be peaceful about this encounter. It seemed her merely wanted to talk to the mare, find out who she was. Perhaps he wouldn't even had come over at all if something about her wasn't familiar. But Cain didn't mind having another stallion here to give her options. As long as it was up to the pretty mare before them, he didn't mind who she left with, though he would be lying if he didn't admit even a little bit that he hoped she picked him. There was something soft and sweet about her, something that reminded him of Berit and Geneva. There was so few mares like that on the islands, gentle and without the spice that made them thriving survivors here. Still, he felt they were special and much needed in the herds.

The taller stallion seemed thoughtful through most of the encounter but he was always a gentleman, for which Cain was thankful. The Vanner caught the glance the other threw his way when he spoke of the Common and he was sure he knew why. Probably because he didn't say that she could be forced to a herd against her will. He was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Of course, he wasn't about to do it, and something in Solomon's demeanor made him want to trust that the other stallion wouldn't force her either. Maybe he had hope that with two stallions already interacting with her, the mare would be protected from most other curious eyes because they weren't about to get to her without having to go through him if they meant ill will toward her.

He flicked an ear toward the painted stallion as he assured the mare she wasn't in trouble and that most mares used this place to choose a herd. Cain nodded in agreement, his gentle gaze fixated on her. When Solomon teased about getting her name, he couldn't help but smirk a little.

It was nice to see the mare relaxing a little as time wore on. She seemed to be figuring out that they meant her no harm. When she smiled, it seemed to light up the sky and Cain smiled back in return. It was like a knee-jerk reaction. He couldn't help it. It was the softest smile, though, almost like she was out of practice and that brought a little sadness to his eyes. Finally, the mare gave her name as Chelle and Cain dipped his head in official greeting. "Then it's a pleasure to meet you, Chelle." When she chided Solomon back about the nicknames, Cain smirked again, but had to snort in disagreement. "I don't know about Solomon, but he looks like a pretty honest guy. And I try to be as well. A lie would go against my code. I may not be a youngster anymore, but I still see well enough to know what's in front of me."

She turned back to him suddenly and he felt like a spotlight was shining on him. His ears pricked and his gaze watched her patiently as she spoke, asking what he truly wanted when he approached her. He met her gaze as he smiled. "Then I have no problem telling you help was the true purpose in my approach. If you needed directions, or to be esorted somewhere, I would gladly take you. If you wanted to be left alone,I would caution you about the dangers of the Common just as openly as I told you about its true purpose...at least as some of us would like it to be." He took a breath and continued. "The Common is where most come to find a home, though it is also a place where you can be forced to go somewhere if the wrong horse approaches. Some will drive you to their home instead of speaking to you to see if that's what you want. I would hope we've proved we're not like that."

Taking another breath, he met her gaze straight-on as he spoke again. "With that being said, if you need a place to stay or even a home, I would be honored if you come see the Desert. You would be welcome to leave at any time, no strings attached. I offer in good faith, not expecting anything from you. What I said before still stands. If you want to be left alone, or to go elsewhere, maybe with Solomon here, I will stand aside if that is your wish. I came to offer help in any form you need, nothing more." Now that he'd said his piece, the stallion dipped his head and turned his gaze to Solomon, sure he might have something to add.
