you hesitated and I don't know why [Annubis]

What an interesting turn of events Hyacinth ponders to herself, after having witnessed the smallest little mare she’d ever laid eyes on come strutting into the lagoon and demanding her dues, which happened to be that of Hyacinth herself. She didn’t expect much to come from the challenge as one of the stallions met her head on, his size a vast difference and surely the winner in the end but the little mare surprised even her by snatching the victory away for herself.

Now Hyacinth and her leggy colt were left to wonder where to truly go and while the offer to join the small mare Valka in her home was very much tempting she wished to seek out her brother once more. Careful to make sure they were not followed she takes them both into the frigid surf of the ocean, her stomach doing flips from remembering how she’d been dragged and tossed around by the treacherous waters before but at least on this morning the waves were calm for her and Oleander to meander through. His laughter fills her ears as he bobs up and down alongside her, and only once did the water take him under before he realized that sticking close to mom and putting his head over her back was a much better idea to keep from inhaling that putrid salt water again.

Thankfully the swim to another island didn’t take too long, Hyacinth breathes a sigh of relief into the air when her hooves find ground beneath them again and she surges up onto the sand with Ollie fighting to keep up, the boy taking a tumble however when the waves catch his back legs and he is properly introduced to the term of eating dirt.

“Ollie,” his mother moves to him to check his wildly swinging legs that fight to right himself, lost in a fit of powerful sneezes with the amount of sand he’d just shoved up them. Her pale lips trail over his white face, pulling affectionately at the dark tufts of hair between his curly ears that tickle her own nose when he tilts his face up to her and nips at her skin. He was quiet for a colt, few words hardly spoken between them unless she first instigated the conversation and that was just fine with her. Jaskier could have learned a thing or two from his nephew in the manner of silence.

Satisfied he is without a scratch Hyacinth then turns her attention on the gleaming green foliage that had caught her eye upon setting foot on the beach. The land was a jungle it seemed, tall palms and thick foliage greet her gaze, so dense and twisted it was hard to pick out anything else so her eyes went back to roaming the beach. By now Oleander has regained his footing, tottering off a bit closer to the jungle than his mother and giving a fallen palm a curious sniff and wincing at the fronds that poke at his delicate skin. It seemed like just the place for her brother to hold up, quiet and secluded but there was another stallion’s scent that marked the beach line that made her wary to continue on.

“Come here Oleander,” she called to the boy whose legs continue to carry him closer to the trees, and in her eyes they looked about ready to snatch him up. His eyes of pale blue are full of wonder as they spy the birds in the canopy above his head, ignoring his mother’s calls for the moment.
