Mine.

Though it was never an outwardly spoken word, the actions had been clear and loud enough. The colt of then, the growing stallion of now, had claimed her as his own. He had been the only one to extend such a thing towards her. Not her mother, not her father, not the residence she lived among in the Ridge. Even though she was not abandoned by the Atlanteans like she had been of her own blood, it was still not the same. Finch knew only one would ever look for her if she disappeared.

When Hades gave himself to the salty embrace of the sea, Finch could only stand in shock at the line of vegetation that separated the jungle from the shore. He had not come for her, nor driven her to the waves. Just simply given himself to the waves without a backward glance. It only took a few heartbeats for her shock to turn to anger. Ears lacing in her thick tangles of mane as she gave a stomp of a feathered front hoof. How dare he?! Adding a snort to her displeasure, Finch moved over to the edge of the water and paused. Maybe she should just stay here and wait for him to come back?

Giving a shake of her head, Finch launched herself into the water after Hades. He was far enough ahead that she could barely see the outline of his ears, but at least she knew a direction to swim. It was cold of course, but this was not the first time, nor the last she would hope for the mercy of the sea. When her father had brought her from Tinuvel to Atlantis, she had been so young; a hazy memory now, but still a memory, so the cold didn’t seem as bad to her as it might be to him. But by time she reached the shoreline of the crossing, Finch felt exhausted.

Hades was no where in sight, and for a moment, the young mare felt panic squeeze it’s tight fist in her chest. Only a deep breath and his familiar scent helped to calm her rapidly beating heart and she begun to follow it without even shaking away the dripping water from her skin. It was too important to try and catch up to her companion. What she didn’t expect, was his difficult choice in path through the brush.

Picking and choosing her way through the briars and bushes, Finch was glad that Hades had already broken through most of it. A smile curved her lips when she spotted his rump and she reached out to give it a nip when her eyes landed on what had made him freeze. The golden and white stranger was gorgeous. She only assumed Hades was frozen because of her beauty, and for a moment, Finch was too.

“Hi” the young mare finally chirped as she peeked over her companion, breaking the silence. She remained behind Hades rather than trying to press her way forward through the brush. He had chosen this way, he could finish making the path.
