Re(12): Hey radio kid

Youre just offending the radio people you claim to honor. News booths and one man radio studios are just soundproof cubies. And maybe you havent been in a station for a long time, but most jocks sit in cubie when not on the air.

Cubies are better than sitting at your kitchen table alone, Jim, IMHO. You do it because you coudlnt' get along with anybody and woudln't take direction from a Sales Manager.

Cubies give people an element of quiet, of privacy, of calm and concentration, but yet we can get up and go see our neighbors just a few feet away.

You often talk about cubies and trash them. Has it been that long since you've worked in a company that hires lots of people? During my last couple radio jobs, I rarely wandered into the bullpen of empty desks when they were out beating to bushes so we could get paid. I appreciated them, out selling our performances...and I'll indulge you with another story.

I left KC and went back to doodah when I couldn't stand corporate WHB...dying because FM was killing them in 1976. Per chance, my old ND down there was leaving the news dept and crossing over to sales. Dunno if he's still around, we lost touch. Joe Shurtz. Nice guy, good mgr of a 5 person news staff at an AM rocker (when rockers still did news.)

So I got rehired and got his old job. He told me when I was back down there that the most interesting thing he noticed was that newspeople tend to look at life through negative glasses; we always sought and reported what was wrong with the world.

Joe said over in sales, the culture is OPTIMISTIC, because they UPSELL their companies, talk em UP. Well I was out of radio not long after that at KSN and then to TV. But I never forgot his observation when he changed jobs.

For the life of me, I don't see that attitude in the Gateway boards and NEVER HAVE. All the way back when Jason Whitlock was in here getting trashed.

And he's made quite a national career for himself over the years. I think there's a lot more going on inside the demise of the radio and TV cultures than you've concluded, Jim. You sure arent a very positive guy. You dont even talk up radio in here. And everybody else is always trashing others. Its so bad that nobody ever uses their real names in here except on rare occasions when they visit to compliment somebody who had died. Never talked about em whent hey were ALIVE, but suddenly in death, they're honored as legendary.

WTF is that all about? I'm old, got fewer braincells but at my age, I do manage to keep up--tho like Biden, my verbal skills on my feet arent what they used to be. I could never do a talk show now like I did back in my 30s.

I see no evidence of anything in YOU om here, Jim, and you're more than a handful of year behind me!

Youre just a cut and paste broken record. Do you have a drinking problem, by chance? You seem to be able to talk the talk of attempted recovery. (Just sayin)
