After the ordeal with the snowstorm on Luthien, and then the torrential rains and wind on Salem, Finley was ready to be back on the Crossing where everything seemed to stay the same. Sure, he had weathered a little bit of snow in the winter, and a few occasional rainstorms in the spring and fall; but nothing had happened quite like it had on the other islands. Plus, the familiarity of it had become comforting and he hadn’t realized it until he had left it.
When Finley climbed onto the shores of the Crossing, the young stallion realized his mistake. The rank scent of the lagoon filled his nose and he nearly curled his lip in disgust. He wanted nothing to do with the brotherhood, or whatever that group of thugs wanted to call themselves. Trying to stay inconspicuous, he slunk through the shadows and mud until he finally came out the other side. Almost instantly, he let out a sigh of relief. He just needed to keep going just in case any of them got any bright ideas to follow him.
After his swim from Luthien to Salem, then Salem to the Crossing, to then cut a path through the Lagoon; Finley was actually growing tired. The young stallion hadn’t done that much strenuous activity since living on Tinuvel with his mother and siblings. So, thinking he had traveled far enough to be in the Meadow (not realizing he hadn’t gone quite far enough), Finley found a nice patch of spring grass to lay down on. After getting comfortable on the ground, the young stallion nibbled on the shoots for a little bit before dozing off as the sun warmed his dark brown pelt.
