make certain your hands are clean ; Rafe is in the commons, wandering rather aimlessly when he has to pause, do a double take. The young mare that just washed ashore - isn’t it one of the Bay fillies? He isn’t exactly sure which mare of Fell’s this particular spawn belongs to, but he is utterly certain he has seen her before. In fact, Rafe thinks she was lurking there when he came for Kohelet.

Whoever her mother is, Rafe cannot pass up this opportunity. Fell had Azalais for seasons, and she had been stolen. This one, she’s out here in the Commons genuinely fair for the taking. Perhaps she will take a shine to Raegar or Cato and not even be difficult to keep contained - both young stallions float around the Badlands and are far more age appropriate. And from the small but ever-growing little band Raegar has secreted away, he must not be half-bad. Either way, Rafe skulks along behind her, gaze attentive as she picks along the Commons.

She’s so young, and so exposed here. Perhaps, if Rafe were a worse stallion (if he were Fell, a vicious little part of his brain whispers) he would be planning far more than dragging her back to the Badlands for a few seasons to irritate her father. But as it is, he keeps a sharp eye out for anyone who may interrupt, anyone who may get some idea to take advantage of the season, of a wide-eyed newcomer to the Commons.

She stops to drink at a stream, her dark head lowered and paying absolutely no attention to anything around her. Rafe lets his hooves fall heavier, the autumn-dried leaves crunching under his feet and startling the filly into looking up. He has no idea if she recognizes him, if it will be fear or hatred or something else that he finds in her face. But whatever it is, he braces for it. “Don’t make a scene,” he tells her. “I’m not going to hurt you; just like I didn’t hurt Kohelet. But you are coming back to the Badlands with me.”
