'I didn't either. . . I don't know if they would have cared.'

Her voice was quieter then as she spoke. Canis lets his gaze rest gently on the golden girl. It has a sad tenor to it, but not out of pity. Out of empathy. A small part of the silver grullo had been afraid that his sire would either care too little or not at all. He was a later product of the silver bay's amorosity and grew up away from the inner workings of the herd, which might have well as meant that he was of little consequence and did not matter in the grand scheme. It wasn't as though Rougaru had actually said these things, of course, but it hadn't stopped Canis from assuming so.

His brow furrows a little now, wanting to say something reassuring. Then, she speaks of her original intent to go back home. This. . disappoints him somehow, but in a way that feels new and unfamiliar. Words that convey indecision leave her lips. The stallion wished he had something nice to tell her, something that would give her hope or make her smile. He knew nothing about her home life though and could offer no accurate nicety about what her return would mean.

So, he offers her a soft sort of smile. "No. Not yet anyway." The silver-haired male knew that he wasn't ready to go back yet. There was a desire in him to see more of the islands now that he had left the Desert, and Canis wasn't ready to deny it yet. Shaking his head gently, Canis straightens himself up. "I think I have to find a life away from there. Too many shadows to live under.."

His voice fades there a smidge at the end, the corners of his lips curling downward in a dismayed frown. It softens and lessens as Canis looks at the palomino before him. For perhaps the first time, he wonders if there is a negative connation that comes with being a son of Rougaru. If so, would she pick up on it from what little he'd said and react accordingly? There was the old anxiety he knew, pricking at him and making the grullo doubt. He pushes it away as much as he can.

"What about you? Do you think you'll go back?" A selfishness in him hopes not. It wasn't so much self-serving as it was hopeful. Hopeful that she could go away from whatever it was that made her feel lesser than. Hopeful that she would have plenty of things to smile about and that he would be responsible for at least a couple of them. Canis pondered in the small quiet before she would, wondering if she'd wander with him or if she would outright reject him if he dared to ask.
