The longer they stood there, the more Aase felt her nervousness disappearing. He hadn’t slipped in anyway with his kindness; no glint in his eyes to say he had any other ideas than to be kind. She was also able to take in his appearance a little better as well. Not quite as heavily built as her, he was taller, and Aase wondered if his longer legs would run any faster than her own. Childish thoughts: thinking of racing a stranger like she had her siblings back home. Aase was supposed to be grown and play certainly wasn’t what a mature mare did. Was it?
“Tree covered mountain.” she replied, surprised that he reverted the question back to her. Aase thought stallions liked to talk about themselves. To show off to impress the mares. So far, Nahawi didn’t act like anything she expected from a stallion on her first-time meeting one. It was…. sorta nice. Not that she would admit that out loud. “I think my mother wanted me to be as strong as one.” she added. Everything that revolved around Xiomara was about power. But Aase wouldn’t speak her name anymore than she would Solomon’s.
Since the painted mare wasn’t wanting to give anything away to what she was truly doing here, she swished her thick two-toned tail against her sleek sides. As if to draw his attention to how thin her sun-bleached coat was, before she said “I just wanted to visit the Crossing, and get a break from all the heat on Salem.” Maybe he would think she belonged to one of the many other herds she had seen while exploring that sandy island. “Are there any places you suggest visiting?”
