Not a variance, no reason to rehire a FFPM, must rehire if the ALS company is creating a variance that's over the variance limit, FFPM must act as the FPM when "detailed" to the ambulance, no negative effects by downgrading ALS to BLS reported. This is how it ends unless the mentality changes about FFPM's. I remember when their was a larger disparity in pay between EMT-B's and FFPM. Six single role paramedics terminated, others looking at hefty suspensions for serious offenses because IDPH is suspending licenses. Region 11 is looking into 1 EMT-B and 1 single role paramedic on each ambulance with a fire company supplementing the response with an ALS company...minimum 2 paramedic, 2 EMT-B response on all runs booked as ALS. Better figure it out or changes will be made.
