Good points about Calipari; You know who also used to say that conference tournaments don't matter? Bob Knight. He always felt that conference championships were more important and how a team played over the course of a season mattered more than how they played for 1 week.
The other thing you mentioned is how the Transfer Portal has changed the game. Calipari was a master of the one and done which ruled the game for several years - maybe a decade. He could convince several 5 star recruits to come and compete with each other for playing time. Now you have to balance between one and dones and 5th year transfers playing with an extra year of eligibility. Replies:
