“We are well-found then, my friend,” Arthur replied as he adjusted his own position upon the bench. He had, as ever when he was within the confines of the chapel, removed his sword belt, and the collection of leather and metal was draped at the feet of the carved wooden cross which stood at the back of the room. There, it was within easy reaching distance should he need it, but it was away from the alter, away from the statue of Mary and the infant Christ, and Arthur felt more comfortable that way. “I confess,” the king replied with an appreciative chuckle, “ I cannot truly remember the last time that it happened, so perhaps you speak the truth.” The King had, in fact, meant to seek Epos out himself, the intention sitting in the back of his mind for months, ever since the organisation of his court had been established. He knew that Joel had only begrudgingly accepted the position of Chancellor before, in a time when there had been few that Arthur trusted as much. Since then however, Arthur had seen knew talents rise, had watched new talents soar like stars into a dark sky, and the King could think of no one who shone as brightly as the woman before him.

“I cannot remember either, ever turning down wine when it was offered,” he continued, his smile widening as he reached down below the bench in order to pull forwards one of the wooden trunks which were stored beneath. The king rose from his seat and fetched his bundle of keys from their place on the belt by the cross, flicking through each in turn until he found the one he sought. Arthur crouched down before the box and slipped the key into the iron lock, turning it clockwise to hear the satisfying clunk of the bolt being released. Folding back the lid, he reached inside and produced two silver goblets and placed them upon the bench beside Epos, before holding up two bottles of wine. “White, or red?” he asked her with a shrug of his shoulders to indicate that he would personally be happy with either. Once Epos had chosen, Arthur replaced the other bottle in the trunk, closed the lid and locked the trunk once more, before pushing it back out of the way beneath the bench. Sitting back in place beside his friend, the King poured them each a generous amount of wine before leaning back casually in his seat and surveying her with bright eyes.

“I sincerely hope you will not refuse the appointment,” Arthur continued after a pause, in which he had taken a sip of wine, absently moving the remainder around in the bottle of the goblet as he spoke. “I can honestly not think of any one more deserving of the post, and, I am certain that I can trust you to fill the role most adequately.” The King smiled encouraging, watching her over the rim of his goblet as he took another measure of wine. “Epos, I wish to make you my first Princeps.” He allowed the words to hover in the air between them for a while, allowing the proposal to sink in before continuing. “We both know that Shaman needs rebuilding, and in that we have the chance to build a better world. I think, if we work together, we can do just that. If you want to try your hand alone, then I am happy for you to do so, but if you want any help, any advice, I would be more than happy to supply it.” Arthur smiled as he came to a stop, resting the foot of his goblet against the bone of his knee, “what say you?”
