The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
The Gods contend in vain

Leaving the injured mare behind, El Aran breathed a private sigh of relief as she and the blind mare reached the oasis. They would be safe from predators here, for the herd was strong and grouped near the water. There was strength in numbers. The black mare watched Quinta quest toward the water, baffled at the bay mare’s apparent inability to locate the pool that stood directly in front of her. She was baffled, too, at Quinta’s lack of response to her questions. El Aran still had no idea who Reisis was, nor Tauska. She did not care about horses who were not immediately involved with her.

The seer tried again, literally repeating the exact words she had said aloud as they crossed the Desert earlier: "Where are you from, Quinta? And how is it you came to be here?" There was an edge to her voice, almost tangible irritation at being forced to repeat herself.

El Aran strode forward and did not stop until she had splashed into the shallows of the oasis where she immediately dipped her head to drink. One black ear twisted back to catch whatever response Quinta might have for her.
