Hollowpoint bumped his painted nose against Giselle’s rump as she stood up before returning to his constant scanning of the horizon. Upon glancing down to where his red girl had been a moment before he noticed she had disappeared. A fear gripped his heart as it had numerous times already today before he saw her a few paces from him walking down the beach. He took off and within a few strides had caught up to her as she clambered atop a large rock. “Giselle you can’t do that! Just wandering off... it’s not safe!” He tried his best to be gentle with her, but his words came out a bit harsher than he intended.

She didn’t seem to hear him as she fell off the rock, which almost gave him another heart attack. It turned out his daughter would be the death of him. Already he was forming another parental correction until he saw what she was running at with such excitement. A huge weight lifted off of him then and he took off after his child once again. Easily he caught up to her right as she reached Aveline.

He reached out to the black woman, pressing his copper nose into the curve of her neck and puffing out a sign of relief. Quickly he pulled back to meet her eyes, searching for any explanation as to what happened. She was possibly the closest he would come to loving another again since she died on those not-so-distant shores. He could not be the source of any harm that came to her. After a brief moment he circled around her, checking her delicate frame for any signs of damage, but he saw not cuts or anything that actually warranted the concern that was etched across his face. The concern remained of course.

Finally he pulled to a stop, satisfied she was not in any mortal danger, before sighing once more. Wearily his crooked smile worked its way onto his face once more. “Welcome to the Ridge,” he said with a halfhearted laugh.
