As the sun slowly rose above the horizon I trotted the borders of my territory. Each mooring could find me pacing the lines of my home, keeping the area covered in my scent, warning off other stallions. This was my territory, and any stallion who set foot within it's bounds without my permission would feel my wrath. The sky above me darkened and I looked up to see clouds blocking the rising sun. They darkened before my eyes and a flash of lightening briefly lit the Inlet. Moments later the boom of thunder rocked the area, resonating beneath my feet. My ears perked as a voice called my name, a mare. I pushed myself into a canter, lunging towards the voice. I could not tell who called, but if one of my mares was in trouble I would be there, drawn to them like the rain to the ground. The droplets pounded against my back as I cantered in her direction, rivulets pouring down my sides.
As I reached the tree line I slowed to a trot, nostrils flaring as I tried to locate the girl. I suddenly caught a scent of mare, one that was familiar, but not one of my own. I followed the scent to the trees, and halted as the girl came into view. Sight of her golden body immediately sparked a memory, a memory of several seasons ago. This mare had been wandering alone during breeding season, vulnerable to any poor excuse for a stallion that wandered along. I had claimed her, this girl was mine. I stepped into a walk, making my way closer to the girl. "Hello my golden beauty. Welcome home." Halting by her face I reached across the small distance between us to breathe into her nostrils, helping to her remember my scent. I was curious about what this girl had been up to during my absence from the Islands, and more importantly, how she found her way back to me.
