Evrona swam determinedly for Salem, more through her need to express her frustration outwardly than out of any desire to arrive at her destination more quickly. While her strong legs kicked out hard against the water, her thoughts were in chaos. She had chosen the Peak so as not to be at the mercy of any stallion. How the hell had this happened? Some of the annoyance she felt was directed at herself, oddly. Perhaps it was her fault for not socialising more with the other Vulcans so that the Thinkers would have been more aware of her presence. Perhaps being anti-social had made her invisible and therefore vulnerable. Vulnerable. The thought angered her further. If no one but Ardea was even aware of her presence, what reason could they possibly have to even think of getting her back? But no, it couldn’t all be her own fault. After all, another mare had also been taken, unless her situation was similar, of course.

She could fight Badr, she knew. And why shouldn’t she win? She had fought a stallion regularly for most of her previous life, until she had comes to these islands. Only… She had her suspicions that her situation might be different now. Evrona wasn’t sure as she had never carried a foal before, but she did feel different and that alone could indicate that Limitless’ seed had taken inside her. She had hoped so desperately at the time, and still hoped so now. All of her previous fighting had not left her unmarked. Each scar that remained on her had been created by brutality, which would easily destroy the potential life developing within her if it was repeated. She could not fight for her freedom for the time being. What did that leave? Months as a prisoner while she waited to see if she was pregnant, and if she was, to carry the child to term.

In what seemed like no time at all, she had reached the Shore and pulled herself up onto it. Immediately she saw something that distracted herself from even bothering to examine her surroundings properly. A smoky cream mare was some way ahead of her. The other Peak mare who had been taken? She refrained from calling out in case her assumption was wrong. She had no desire to engage with any mares who already lived here just at the moment. She might lash out at them if they were full of praise for their lead, and she would rather keep her temper under control for now. Instead she followed after the other girl, to see where she was headed.

She paused and waited while the cream girl drank at a pool, feeling as though she was baking in the heat and resisting the urge to rush up and join her. Water was very appealing to her at the moment.

Just as she left the water’s edge a dark brown stallion appeared. Was this Badr? From a short distance away it was difficult to tell, but he looked as though he was around her own height and-she caught herself. She realised she had already been trying to size him up for a fight.

She closed the distance between them a little more, not actively introducing herself but no longer concerned as to whether she would be seen or not.
