Le miserable | open

Nikola could not help but be on edge. Larka was gone. That was a fact. It had been long since he'd smelt her scent, let alone see her monochrome frame on his Ridge. There would never be a day that he would not think of her, but he could not sulk forever. He had a family to take care of, to watch over. And now that winter was about, his girls were fattening up. Pierce was avoided at all cost, keeping a lookout after her from FAR away, less he get caught under her bad mood. Already he was missing a chunk of his mane. She must have pulled out the very roots when she'd grabbed him in their last conversation! That explains why Nikola had cried out like a big baby.

Life had been good to me here.. Standing on a ledge just off the Ridge, he stared down at the beach below and he could not help think about her.. His heart swelled and he dropped his head towards his chest. They should be having their first child soon.. and instead she was out there, either alone or dead and he was here, unable to do anything. If he could cry, he might, but instead he choked, his throat closing up, leaving him to only gasp and sigh against the colder but still humid air.

When he could not bear the pain of loneliness any longer, he turned towards the heart of his home, the large clearing that they all slept in at night. Lifting his head towards the dying sky, the stars already beginning to shine, he called out. For someone, anyone to spare his misery. For once it had not rained all day. Winter, he assumed, had kept the storms at bay. Likely when it did come down, it was to be chilled drops. Tonight would be relatively comfortable. He hoped.
