She seemed to have all the grace of her mother. She owned the forest, she was pretty sure of that. Regardless of the real questions of legitimacy, you could see it as she moved. She was almost a yearling - but she was still young. Fillyhood though was far from her. Her brown and white mane bounded along in her gait as she trotted through the dimly lit world.

This was her first fall. Soon she would resemble the landscape in winter. She was mostly white after all - with spottings of chestnut where her mother said the Stars had kissed her. Pleiades was not as devout as her mother - not by a long shot. But she was learning.

Still, the forest seemed to be coming alive again. That was interesting enough for her to wander far from her mother's small claim. She stopped and took a whiff of air - determined to see how things worked. She was young, too young still to know how dangerous it was to wander at this time of year. But she was too young to bare a child. So the world was still innocent and wide.

The daughter of the Forest moved carefully. She was elegant, nearly full grown. She stood over her mother and that excited her. She felt she would be able to make her own choices - even though the wiser Fayte had made them for her family. Pleiades did not enjoy that one bit. Her mother would say she had inherited a rebel spirit from her grandsire. Pleiades would say Fayte was just overprotective. Who knows what was the right answer.
