asleep or dead? solgar.

The new man of the Hills was what one would call a pompous ass. Earthshine wasn’t going to be having any of that. It was several days of sheltering over in the Desert, though, before she moved across the lands and out. Spring was coming to the rest of the world, and that meant that the heat was simply building. It wasn’t something she’d mess with, something she’d touch. More heat than the cold born mare could shake a stick at wasn’t good for the heart or the soul. It wasn’t good for the black mare either. For once she wished she wasn’t so plain.

As the mare stepped into the churning sea, though, she was glad she could hide. Earthshine was able to slip back into the world that had become strictly her own, one that she didn’t have to think about. The creature has no use for words, and they have no use for her out here. She’s alone, and that’s something that makes her happy. The dark mare relaxes into the current, allowing it to propel her as opposed to fighting it. Eventually she would get where she needed to go, it was simply more fun to let the wind take her.

As soon as the water grew colder, she could find her way more and more easily. It was on the shores of the Inlet that the dark mare heaved herself, eyes bright. Her ears flickered forward, making her way across the pebbly sand and settling in as she hit what was still a thin crust of ice. It would be cold here for much longer, well into the spring, and that was the first comfort of the day. Earthshine was able to embrace the fact that this place was the one she fit in, the one she knew what was coming. It didn’t matter who lead the Inlet… it rarely changed. That was where her comfort was, as well.

The mare moved across the ground, to the ledge that she’d shown Solgar once upon a time. It was one of her favorite places in the whole wide world. It was better than the highest point in the Hills, the spot she’d lived beneath the willow tree on the mainland. The only place she could think of that had equaled this one was the Cavern that looked out over the sea. It was perfect on those grey days, those days like today. It was today that she would stand and look into the sea, that she would stand and she would think. Earthshine was, for now, simply a part of the landscape.
