It had been days since their mother died, and you'd think the image of their dam lying there, splayed out for the world to see would imprint a permanent image in their small minds. It hadn't though, for the twins were instead searching for a new mother figure they felt would fit them right. The first lady with pretty dapples had been nice, but they needed to check out the others also. It wouldn't be fair to simply pick out the first one that came along. With her slightly taller brother leading the way, Costello followed quickly behind, glancing back every so often to see if the lady would follow them, but the bay girl only saw trees and fresh grasses. Maybe the lady knew what they were up, but still, Costello's belly rumbled with hunger again. She should have stayed for another meal.

Huffing a sigh, she picked up her slacking gait into a slow run, for Abbott had pulled on ahead of her, his head tilted to the right so he could see better with his left. At least he hadn't questioned his minor disability, his sister on the other hand, was still a mystery with her no talking thing. The black colt shook his head, unsure of what to make her, when his eye passed over a small group in the trees. One lady was a dark color with white on her body, and the other that stood nearby had a spotty butt. The sight of them both made him stop, causing his sister to ram into the back of him and send him tumbling forward, front legs buckling under him as he somersaulted over and tumbled to his side, near the spotted mare. He gave a squeak of anger toward his twin, shaking his head at her with big ears slanted backwards.

Costello simply eyed him with big round eyes, as innocent as she could be. She hadn't meant to knock her brother down. Her maw opened as if to answer him back, but she quickly closed it, afraid of the empty air that would escape again. Like her brother, her lack of speak felt weird. Lifting her face away from Abbott, her eyes went to the small foal by the painted mare, and her tail instantly flickered to and fro in utter delight. They had found another baby to join their ranks. As if sensing what his sister was on to, Abbott too turned and looked at the small girl. He gave a snort, ears moving forward.

"Yu No deid," came a jumble of words from his mouth as he looked now to the painted lady. He wondered why had his mother died when birthing them, when this filly's momma stood perfectly fine.
