Life is nothing but a Game

The cry, it reached his ears and lingered. It made Fundamental raise his head and shifts his gaze towards the direction of the sea. Had it been his imagination? Something so lonesome sounding, so in pain surely could not be upon his land that he had yet to find. But it was soon followed by the sound of a call, a beckoning sound that had his hooves moving before rationality could settle into his mind. Passing among the towering pines, the stallion galloped through the snow, kicking it up in his wake. Only as he came closer to where the call had come from did he slow to a simple trot.

Bursting from the trees, Fundamental instantly stopped with his head high and his eyes searching. There, farther down the beach she was with her back towards him as she walked away. Nares flaring to catch her scent that the breeze brought to him he could tell she was not of this land, her smell containing salt from the sea. Giving a call in return, Fundamental broke gate again to trot down the beach. His hooves sank into the soft sand leaving a trail behind him, but he gave little thought to it. Only her call of loneliness still ringing in his mind.

As he approached the mare the stallion could not help but to arch his neck slightly as he took in her snowy appearance wondering if he could have ever found her should she have went farther inland. But little did that matter as she had not which left them upon the open beach to be buffeted by the cold wind blowing off of the crashing waters. Without a thick coat she would surely freeze being wet and Fundamental knew he needed to get her to shelter to warm and dry herself. Introductions could wait for later when she was not at risk of becoming ill or even death.

“Please follow me” he said, reaching out his muzzle to offer her some sort of peace before turning away. If she did not choose to follow him then Fundamental would round back and drive her to safety as he was not about to allow a mare to die upon his place from something such as stupidity. But for now he would give her the benefit of the doubt and hope she followed on her own.
