Apollo’s rays glistened over the golden sand and white caped waves as they rushed urgently over the shore. Warmth embraced everything around her and all the other creatures who accompanied the harbor. Lacing back her auditives that now rested on her mane Sylvia’s sapphire occules watched her beloved dive into the calm sea. He hadn’t told anyone where he was going however rarely did he ever. Until now Sylvia hadn’t actually seen Midas go anywhere for quite awhile. Everything about the aureate stallion she had grown to adore over the many years they spent together seemed to be hiding behind a blanket of depression. Midas rarely socialized with any of the herd members let alone anyone outside his sanctuary. Unease set in the moment water sprayed from impact but Sylvia forced her nerves to calm telling herself how foolish she was being. Midas was probably just needing some time for himself or perhaps he was off to meet a friend to discuss a possible home for one of his daughters. Reassuring herself Sylvia got comfortable and decided to wait on the shoreline for him to return she was sure he wouldn’t be gone long.

****************************************************

Time had become a blur of day and nights passing. Her beloved never returned and Sylvia felt a sickening twist in her stomach. She feared that he had gotten lost at sea and drowned somewhere by accident. It had to be an accident for Sylvia hadn’t been strong enough emotionally to think of the possibility that her beloved went into the sea on purpose without the intention of returning. Sylvia didn’t want to think that Midas went into the sea to die or that maybe if he started to struggle because of a wave that he just stopped trying to swim. However after nearly a year of searching every shoreline in hope and in fear of finding his body Sylvia slowly came to the harsh reality that not only was he not returning she would never know what happened out there in the sea of if he was even alive.

Flaring her nostrils to breath in more of the icy air her barrel rose and fell. Being a slender built mare Sylvia wasn’t accustomed to the cold weather and although she had come back into the icy part of the island she found that all of her strength to continue onward had vanished. A part of her wanted to return the warmth of the atlantis but why? Her daughter left a while ago and she had no idea where Claire ended up. All the herd mares vanished too and even with Sylvia visiting the falls a couple times and meadows she never saw anyone she knew since that the harbor got taken over by someone new.

Closing her eyes she saw his aged handsome face. His hazel eyes searched deep into her own feeling as though they went into her soul. It gave her some comfort against the harsh weather surrounding her as she could feel her meek physic shiver with having lost so much weight that her shoulder spine and hip bones you could see along with her ribs. Being in the inlet for a while now Sylvia had grown a thick winter coat and anymore she doubted if anyone came across her from her past they probably wouldn’t even recognize. Mudd went from her ankles to her knees and her tail once went was now frozen with grim. Sylvia had absolutely no idea that fundamental had claimed this unknown place and she hadn’t come out from the thick pine trees to been seen or smell the presence of another equine. Not until now that is and even as she stood near a bank and drank from one of the many streams in this forgotten lithosphere it was far too cold to notice the smell of any other living creature.

Only death and love change all things
