Sighting in Rhode Island

Unless someone has been really, really overfeeding a domestic housecat, we had 25-35 pounder pass between two yards in East Greenwich , RI heading south to north, on Saturday, October 12th at 3pm. First thought was a bobcat, but the ears were not that pointed and its tail was nearly as long its body with a black tip at the end---and , yes the tail was waving/curling. The body was darker beige/brown colored with spots , about 3 feet long and 2-3 feet high. The cat jumped up onto a log next to the shed, turned and looked back, passed behind the shed, jumped up onto a couple of rocks and looked back again. Sniffing along the way--- this is a similar trek that the deer use to get around our yard as well. Any thoughts , we were stunned!!
