Now that the US Fish & Wildlife Service has declared the "eastern cougar" extinct, it's up to the states to protect cougars in their borders...or not. States have their own threatened and endangered species lists. It's pretty easy to access these lists by Googling, so I did. Cougars are listed as endangered in all the New England and adjacent states except Maine and Pennsylvania. Presumably it would be legal for someone to kill a cougar in Maine and Pennsylvania. Replies:
