The art of love is largely the art of persistence

A new day was starting, the sun just barely peeking over the horizon. Above the sky was painted in faint pinks and light blues, gentle pastels that was easy upon the sleep filled eyes. Just like every morning Skylar was awake to see the sun born, standing in the same place that was closest to the Peak upon the shoreline. She could see the faint outline of it upon the Crossing and the mare wondered, would she ever go back home? It seemed like forever ago that she had set foot upon that mountain at the mare came to realize it had been a full year. How had time slipped by so quickly?

As the sun rose higher, the sky clearing to turn into the ordinary blue it possessed every day, Skylar turned her back upon the outline of the place she longed to be. It was at this time she came to reality of where she was and what she was, a herd mare beneath a stallion and carrying his child. This time it had been consented not rape knowing that she would not miss the chance to raise another child. The last one had been very taxing upon her, making the pain in her chest much stronger than it ever had been before. For days she had been left weak and weary, lying around and barely eating or drinking. But time healed everything and Skylar was strong once more despite the heavy load that caused her barrel to be swollen.

The paint mare wandered aimlessly down the beach now, her pace slow and ambling as she had nowhere in particular to go. At times the water would reach up around her pillars, swirling and tugging as if beckoning her into its depths to take her home to the Crossing. But every time the thought would cross the mare’s mind she would step away from the waters and more towards the dry sands, making her way towards the jungle where beautiful colors and crystal clear water would great her. It made for a great distraction, but the longing would never go away.
