The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.

Vesti

Vesti watched the clouds for a bit. They danced and rumbled. Rain on Salem was as deadly as the heat. It pelted those out in the sands and turned them into muck. Flooding was all too easy. It was always best to find an oasis and hole up until the rain passed. It was nothing like the Ridge - but the dunes got rain even rarer than the desert. She sighed and looked at Orhan.

Family?

She sighed.

“Well, I’ve had two sons,” Vesti said. “My oldest, Grai, would be about your age, Orhan, now at least. His brother, Kel, was a year younger. Kel was… almost completely blind. I would have rather kept him by my side but when his brother wanted to test the Sea he insisted on going.” There was regret in her voice.

A mother knows their children - it has been said. And while Vesti did not claim to be a psychic, she had a very bad feeling when Kel left. She had felt that she would not meet the blind boy again as long as this life continued. Grai though she suspected would be fine.

You don’t believe that your boys are still alive, do you? The Sea swallowed them like they did you. Why not open up about that? It took all of Vesti’s will to not pin her ears back at the Voice’s taunts.

“I don’t know if they are still on the Islands or if they went elsewhere,” Vesti added. “If Grai wants to find me, he knows to come to Salem. As for other family… gods only know where they are or if they think of me. I was separated from my mother as a filly and cast adrift on the Sea until I washed up on the Crossing. From there it was Atlantis for a while and then here and here is where I’ve been ever since.”

She could not face the terror of the Sea. It was one thing to swim in the small pools of water offered by the oasis of the desert island. She still panicked at the beach - unable to approach the water. She shook her head.s
