Silent people have the loudest minds.
Gandy replied with her usual joking tone and I smiled softly. No doubt the child will grow up sturdy being raised by this woman. A little bit of shock hit my features when she began to voice her worry a bit. 'Do you think so? I am a little worried I won't know what to do.' I nodded and laughed lightly. Yes Gandy. I do think so, very strongly in fact. Looking away I dug deep in thought. Then I looked back to her blue gaze. You'll know what to do when the foal arrives. A sense of caring and love will sweep through you and you'll want to cherish the foal with all your being.
Lightly I smiled as I remembered what my mother had told me once. You'll go against all odds to make sure the child grows up strong. Not knowing what to do the first time is a great thing and very common. The both of you will learn new steps together. A grip in my chest seemed to squeeze tight around my heart as I remembered the blurred memories of my mother.
She went through many hardships so I could be standing here today. I stared at her swollen mid section and moved my head closer to her stomach. Gently I pressed my forehead against it and spoke sternly, but gently. Now, you listen here young one. Stop givin your mother a hard time. You'll be out soon enough. Then the whole world will welcome you and it will be a joyous day. My tone softened a bit more. You've been blessed with two wonderful parents and I know you'll be loved. Be warned though your mother is sarcastic and your father is a grump when he doesn't get a joke.
I teased a bit, but went back to my lecture. But, they will love you unconditionally. After I was done I lifted my head and smiled up at Gandy. There, I think the child gets it now. Yes, it was weird for someone to come and talk to their unborn foal, but if it cheered her up I'll look like a fool any day.
