IT'S OKAY FOR YOUYOU TO HATE ME

Opening his mouth wide as a yawn escaped his lips Lyden’s ears went from resting backwards listening to the breathing of the girls around him to the heavy footfalls of someone departing. Ice like blue spheres opened and focused watching Gandy’s buskin form slowly continue onward before she disappeared into the forest. She had been doing this a lot lately disappearing and re-appearing and even though he had followed her every time nothing had come for their child being born into the world.

This morning though with a ray of dim sunlight that hit her coat just right Lyden noticed a patch of sweat against her flank Lyden realized then that this time just very well could be it and before he had a chance to double think it his legs moved in a quick walk behind her only slowing as he slipped through the foliage that lead into the cluster of trees.

When she came into view again Gandy looked so uncomfortable and restless that saddened him. Lyden desperately wanted to help her but watching the birth of his first two children taught him it was far more wise to allow the mare to be alone and do it on her own. It gave them a sense of peace and allowed the first moments of bonding between them to just be them and not have anyone or anything else be interfering.

And so Lyden watched, he watched her lay down only to get back up a few times before she finally laid down it seemed like it happened rather instantly that their foal came out. Blood filled the surrounding area which set him on edge making Lyden constantly flick his ears around listening to the outside creatures move around. He hadn’t seen anything that could be any real danger and so his muscles were not tense

Hearing her call to their child made Lyden move forward thinking that it was alright but he paused just awhile longer. their child what smelled to be a colt didn’t respond to her and his worry forced him forward just as she rose to her feet and dropped her head to graze but still keeping close. As he got nearer to the pair lyden made sure he nickered to her and nudged her shoulder while moving to stand near her while he stood staring at their son who was just staring at them back.

Relief washed over him knowing that the foal was in-fact alive. His pale coat matched his own and his bald face and legs made him very adorable. However as he continued to watch to see if their son would stand like most did he noticed his right eye was completely white while the other was blue like his own. Instantly his heart sank knowing all too well what that sign meant. Their very handsome, perfect son was blind in his right eye and he wondered if he would be mute too. Perhaps that’s why he hadn’t responded to Gandy. ”you did amazing my love I couldn’t be more proud of the both of you” blind or even deaf, perhaps both, he was still their son and that’s all that mattered
