He stared after them moments after they had faded from view, his attention was drawn back to Macabre, her whimpering barely reaching his ears. That was until he laid his neck across her shoulders did her whimpering become so loud, that worry washed over him... she needed his comforting embrace. With each passing minute the temperature dropped, he could feel her pushing into his body, he hoped that he was providing her the life giving warmth she needed. His breath came out in puffs of vapor, snuggling closer to her. Each hour ticked by, his eyelids grew droopy, his body and mind were weary. He had never known such an exhausting lifestyle until you become the lead of a herd. Every minute revolves around the herd, keeping every herd member safe, even sacrificing your own body for those that you loved. He had lived in a bachelor herd for some time but had never known the weariness of being their leader. With a sigh, he jerks his head upwards trying to keep himself awake, he had to keep watch over her sleeping form. He knew that a wandering wolf would be able to scent the blood and think that they could have a free meal. Pinning his ears at the thought...wolves such a nuisance.
Dögun laid next to her the whole night, until the oranges and pinks of the sunrise broke the morning twilight. Watching in wonder as the sun peaked above the horizon washing the world in its warmth. A sigh of relief escapes his dark lips, they had made it through the night without a predator smelling them out. Macabre begins to stir next to him, her strength obviously had returned. She pulled herself to her full height, as she stood he also unfolded his stout legs from underneath of his body. Stretching each limb, chasing the fuzzy feeling from his legs, awww it felt good to stand once again. He warily watches her body movements, as she stumbled into the sand he reaches his muzzle to her shoulder. Silently letting her know that he was still here for her if she needed his assistance. Lifting his fuzzy head higher he scans the grasses for the appearance of Freya, knowing that they would be returning at any moment. A bit of worry tinged his heart, hating knowing that they had spent the night away from the safety of the herd. Just before he could worry a minute longer they appeared. Right on time as well, for Macabre was worried for her foal. Freya quickly informed her of why she had taken the foal inland but to insure that Macabre would not become irritated with Freya, Dögun speaks. "I had suggested that she take him deeper inland. We both have witnessed the frigid blasts of wind that the Inlet has to offer." Pausing he takes a breath. "Please do not be angry."
