For a moment, the white mare surrendered herself to the comfort of Dögun's presence, leaning into the soft touch of his muzzle with a sigh of contentment. It was curious how something so small could be so strong - the stallion's physical power may be limited by his short stature, but he had a different kind of strength. A strength of character, of spirit. There was a steadiness to him, like the rocks under Silver's hooves. Holding her up, stabilizing her while she worked to rebuild the foundations of her life. And Dögun's friendship was shaping that life. Shaping her.

How had a creature so small managed to fill up so much of the emptiness inside her? she wondered, her gaze sliding back out to sea. Watching the waves swirl beneath the grey-blue sky, listening to the soft murmur of the ocean's speech.

As Dögun declared feelings that were similar to her own, Silver decided that the answer didn't matter. He was here, and she was whole - and for the moment, that was enough. "I would love to, if you would not mind showing me the way. I'm ashamed to admit that I've managed to lose myself in more helpful surroundings, - my mind isn't what it used to be," the old mare responded with a smile, a second of light laughter. "But age does have its compensations. If nothing else, I have enough stories to entertain your family - assuming I haven't forgotten them." Another chuckle rumbled in her chest as she fell into step behind Dögun.

Slowed by the ache of her joints, however, Silver was forced to slow her strides until she fell behind the grullo again. It had been awhile since she'd traveled so much in a single day; since Greyson's passing and her arrival on the first of these islands, the white mare had only wandered the short distance between the meadow and the falls. So she was grateful to find the stallion waiting patiently for her at the crest of the hill, and stopped to rest for a moment. Her limbs shaking with exhaustion, Silver's gaze was drawn inexorably to the darkness of the forest before them, and a shudder tingled down her spine. It was difficult not to imagine that there were enemies concealed within, and she stepped forward to follow Dögun into its depths warily.
