why study history when you can live it?

those who do not learn from history
are doomed to repeat it
I was beginning to worry that turnover in the Islands was worse than before. Perhaps Pilar had run off with another stallion or this Kasibean had run off to a different territory. I carefully herded Sokka a bit ahead of me. It made me less nervous on the rocky path down.

Then I heard hoof steps. I perked up. Perhaps I would be lucky. Sokka stopped in his tracks, one foreleg up. His red coat looking more and more like a ruby. I was so proud that he gained my shine.

Then Pilar came cantering up to us. I smile.

“Pila!” I called. “Sawreh id ‘ooh sa long da make id up ‘ere. We’ve jus’ been badda’d wid ‘urrican’s la’leh.” I smiled.

Sokka was torn between going closer to Pilar and sneaking behind me. I gently bumped his rump.

“Ga on,” I encouraged. “Inaduce yourself.” I wasn’t going to have unfriendly or unmannered children. Whether Sokka liked it or both. He had to greet people like a gentlecolt.
