a lover sinking in the sea (dogun/any)

Autumn is upon them, and with the arrival of cooler weather, also comes the arrival of mating season. Freya had been both anticipating and dreading this time of year - mostly because she is unsure of what it will mean for herself and Dogun. She knows she wants a child - she has always known that. But, given the obvious differences between herself and her mate, would it even be possible for them? They had made several attempts (which would have looked ridiculous to anyone passing by), and now only time will tell whether they had been successful or not. So far, she hasn't noticed any changes, and with each passing day, she hopes there will be some sort of sign - but nothing, so far. Then again, how would she know? She has never carried a child before. How is she supposed to tell? Perhaps one of the other mares who had already bore a child - like Silver or Macabre - could tell her. Yes, that would be helpful.

Today is a particularly cool day in the Inlet, and Freya has sought refuge amongst a thicket near the Bay's border, burying herself into a soft bed of dead leaves and grass. It is nearly evening time, the sun beginning to touch the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over everything. Night will come in just a few hours, and Freya will have to return to the main herd to ensure that everything is in order and everyone is where they are supposed to be. She knows that, because it is breeding season, she will have to keep a particularly close eye on the other mares, as well as crank up border patrol. After all, they wouldn't want any rogue stallions sneaking in trying to get down and dirty with the Inlet's females. Dogun certainly wouldn't be too happy about that. Come to think of it, neither would Freya.

Sighing to herself, Freya rolls over onto her side, closing her eyes and letting her thoughts wander to Dogun. It has been days since they have seen each other, since their last interaction at the foaling grounds. Both their duties have kept them busy, with no time to themselves. She knows Dogun frequently travels to the Commons looking for more mares to join their herd, and though she knows it is his duty as a king to grow his family and make them stronger and keep them safe, she can't help but feel a little jealous that he devotes so much time to it. When they do come together, though, all her insecurities melt away, and she knows she has nothing to worry about. Still, when he is gone, her mind insists on dwelling on all the negative things that could be happening. It is not pleasant.
