Lyden; weep for the dream in a grave

D I C K E R E

I read the words on torn down walls,
reminding me how much I loved you

A season and a half had come and gone. The girls had arrived in late summer and now the cold mornings and dark clouds hanging low in the sky were a sign of the approaching winter. Every day now it seemed Dock’s sides grew larger a little by little. It felt as if Dickere was losing her sister – as if she didn’t know who she was anymore. Back at home Dock had been silent, only speaking to Dickere and occasionally giving a word to Hickere. Their father hadn’t been very kind or patient with her, and neither had her mother. But now… Now Dock seemed to want nothing to do with either of her sisters, drawn into a silence that held a touch of dark anger toward it. Dickere was lost. She didn’t know what to do for her.

So she and Hickere traded off. One would stay by Dock’s side and the other would spend time either alone or with others in the Forest. Thus far Dickere had met a couple of her new family but there was one she would really like to meet. One she felt it was important for her to know. Lyden. He was busy, she understood this, but he hadn’t driven Dock away when he had every right to. Dickere didn’t understand this, it intrigued her. She wanted to know more about him, more about this stallion she was now meant to spend the rest of her days with.

Flicking her black tail at her hindquarters, Dickere started forward through the cool morning, streams of white breath pooling from her nostrils as she breathed. Her dark brown eyes searched for the sight of Lyden and she followed where his scent was strongest, even while it lingered over the Forest borders.
