Soljor watched Cut up Angel. They were getting a little bit closer every time. His actions had caused the rift between them. He knew that. It was his shame to bare. But she had been the first that he’d truly brought home. Cherish… no. Cherish had been a mistake. That much was clear now. He’d been stupid to fall hard and fast for that painted girl. He only wished he’d known what happened to her. Where she’d gone and what she’d done with the child he undoubtedly sired. It was upsetting to know that there was a part of his family he’d never known. That he would never know. But he could make that up now. He listened and laughed.

“I’m not a big fan of the ocean,” He admitted. “I prefer to keep my hooves on the ground. I would suppose she gets it from my mother. My mother used to stand at the shore during the evenings and pray. She once told me something about the moon and the sea being sister spirits.” He shrugged. Tallynne had crossed his mind a number of times. Sometimes, he wondered if he should have paid more attention to her lessons. He shivered slightly at the thought of Harlequin braving the oceans. “I hope that day doesn’t come soon.” Though he already had his suspicions. He remembered her mentioning that she’d met a boy with a wolf.

That was a little disturbing to him. He wouldn’t share it with Cut up Angel just yet. Perhaps the colt had come here. That was a far more comforting thought. Then Cut up Angel spoke of the tracks. Soljor sighed. He could use some help. She bumped his shoulder, which was a surprising action. He looked at her and nodded.

“They were strange,” He said. “I spotted them coming up from the empty lands to our north. I think it was called the Arch. Anyway, if they weren’t in a pattern like they were walking, I wouldn’t have thought they belonged to the same animal.” He thought about how to describe them. “I think the front limbs are smaller than the back ones. The back ones are… enormous. It has toes like a wolf, but they are all located at the front of the tracks, with big claws. But the back part… it was long. At least in the back set. So where there were no claws, it was very long.” He pawed the ground a bit, making a slight line. “It’s stride was enormous! I had to take two strides for every one of its.”

He shook his head.

“I haven’t seen any other signs yet, but I’m very worried. It must be a predator, nothing has claws for any other reason, and it must be very large.” He looked at Cut up Angel. “Be careful.” He had to wonder if she was as curious as some of his other mares. He was certain if he shared this with Mercury (which he would eventually) she would be determined to go off and find it with him. He would have to convince her otherwise. Fly would be similar. He didn’t think Acelynn or Rattlebone would. They were far more reserved mares. He didn’t know Cut up Angel enough yet.
