Hickere flicked her ears forward, eyes on the red and white mare she’d approached. When no outward sign of tension was recognized she stepped forward, breathing in soft huffs as her lean neck stretched out and her muzzle bumped the others for a friendly exchange. As Hickere tucked back her gaze lingered over the mare’s cloudy eyes and how, while she looked in the right direction, she didn’t exactly look directly at Hickere. Hickere had only seen one other blind horse in her life but it didn’t take a large deal of intelligence to see that the mare she stood with was blind.
But to hear the mare was one of Braylen’s and not Isobel surely meant she was the mare Hickere had been looking for – the newest recruit to the forest. That was enough information for Hickere to smile and forget her momentary awkwardness at approaching a blind horse, shedding the fear that she’d do something foolishly wrong or potentially offend her. “Georgiana, it’s so wonderful to meet you!” She exhaled with a smile, her voice full of its natural cheer. “I was hoping it was you… I’d heard Braylen brought a new mare to the forest but couldn’t be sure.” Now, of course, she was! She smiled and tried to keep her energy tapered down even if she was so excited she wanted to dance in place.
“We have another in our little family, her name is Isobel. She’s very sweet.” Hickere explained while nodding her head before she realized – yet again – that Georgiana could not see her do so. Ah well, that’s what Hickere got for being such an animated talker.
Her ears flicked and her gaze, though warm, brightened with curiosity on the face of her lovely sister. “Have you been at the islands long?” For as far as Hickere knew, Georgiana could have simply been a resident of another island rather than new to them as she and her blood sisters had been.
