Protected Paradise Lyden/Birth

Silent people have the loudest minds

Winter again melted away in bits as if nothing happened and the earth soaked up the snow much like I with drinking water. The foal within settled lately and only kicked in violent protests periodically. Other than that I felt close to nothing. Mine and Lyden's foal fell to silence and it worried me only a little. After all, maybe I didn't grow big enough to hold the foal? Or maybe it was so crammed it couldn't move anymore? I just knew the foal wasn't dead because after awhile I could feel it adjust. If only a little. The swollen appearance on my stomach was proof enough that my body was about to drop the soon to come new life. Looking to my extended midsection I gave it a light nudge as if hugging my foal, but not being able to touch it just yet.

I wanted my foal, but it'd come on its own accord. Just as I had with my first born. Both foals were precious existences, but this one I'd do everything and anything. Be the mother I never was to the first and give this one a better life full of fulfillment. That is my hopes anyways. Now though, now spring was here and hidden grasses that had been frozen over winter peaked through. Inviting my nose to dive to the ground and my lips kissed the blades. Teeth ripping up the fresh green that winter had taken from us. Who knows how long I had foraged, I just know I was near a stream and a familiar feeling came waltzing in. A sharp pain in my side sent shivers down my legs and back. My nostrils flared as snorts of discomfort escaped with force.

The time I'd been waiting all winter for had finally come. Moving closer to the familiar stream I tried to make it to the point where many had visited often, but I was a few yards off. My legs buckled under my weight as another excruciatingly painful shock went through my body again. I landed in the softness of the forest floor, but an audible thud was there all the same. The snap of a twig was the loudest thing besides my neighs and whines of pain. This birth is different, its more painful, more. Just more everything! Oh jeez! My head hit the ground as it lost support from my neck and my front legs kicked about as the pain came in horrific waves.

What seemed like an endless thing only took who knows how long. For as of that moment a last wave came through and then just a soreness. For moments at a time I jut laid there motionless, not knowing what it is I should be doing. Until, something willed me to lift my head, get up and get moving. Now wasn't the time to be sleeping it said. So, I tried to comply. Tried to get up, but my legs wobbled from exhaustion and my lungs demand more air. Still, stubborness demanded me to stand and so with effort I did so. Turning around to find a small thing curled up in a membrane. Only to find it broken from a strong kick and I bent my neck down to assist. Through all the exhaustion and pain, I finally got to see. Got to see her my little filly. The one I'd been waiting to see for so long. Pulling off the sack and getting riddance of it I nudged the light foal. Encouraging her to stand because instinct said to. Said get moving and stand.
