watch the sunset disappear

I had never thought that I would be as welcomed by another as I was with Hickere, and oh did it feel good. I hadn’t imagined it would feel like this really, like I was a part of a family, finally. While yes, I had yet to meet the other member of Braylen’s herd, Georgiana, I only hoped the mare wouldn’t hold it against me for not seeking her out yet. It’s not as if I can just call for anyone to come to me, at least. I only hoped that in time everyone would understand and be comfortable with my way of expressing myself.

The way Hickere responded when the tears had begun to well up, the comforting sense that came when she spoke, I opened my eyes slowly, after having them closed as tight as I could to keep the tears at bay. I found myself watching her for a brief moment before I started down at my legs, shifting my weight. I was so unused to anyone wanting to be around me that I doubted that I was giving a good first impression.

She spoke again, her voice pausing and so I lifted my head up, trying to figure out the expressions that crossed the girl’s face. She asked if I could talk, and at first, yes, I felt ashamed, because everyone else was perfect in so many ways and yet, I was flawed in so many. I shook my head slowly in response to her question on whether or not I could speak. She spoke again, about how she was told prior she could talk enough for four. I found that bringing a smile to my face.
