She was alone.

Never before had Mera been alone. But with Sahin’s disappearance it seemed that everything had slowly spiraled downhill until it had turned into complete chaos. The death of the buckskin stallion that had caused her mother and brother so much grief had scattered the family to the wind and try as she might, Mera could not hold them together. Xina’s loss of control had seemed the most difficult to take. Her mother had always been the strong one to hold everything together. Mera had always known that if her mother was around everything would be right in the world, the older roan mare wouldn’t allow it any other way. But now without her strength, without Dia’s kindheartedness and Sahin’s security; Mera felt hurt and lost and she could no longer recognize Paradise as her home.

Slowly she had wandered along the shore and within a few days she could no longer recognize her surroundings. A new stallion’s scent touched the air and Mera wondered if she should be nervous. Raising her head she peered over her shoulder, some part of her waiting for Sahin or Xina to come rushing up and scold her for departing without their protection. But neither showed and with a heavy heart the young mare wandered on, her head lowered in a defeated manner as she went.
