Vesti
Vesti relaxed with every measured step away from the dreaded water. Inhale, two, three. Exhale, two, three. The Voice was at least helpful in this attempt to quiet her heart. So was Orhan. Vesti took several moments of silence as the crashing waves dulled from a deafening roar to a quiet, angry hum. You went a bit too close this time. You must like him. Yeah… It was a good effort. It was laughing at me. It wasn’t. You’re making this up. Aren’t I making you up? Are you?
Are you?
Vesti shook her head and looked to the buckskin.
“Thank you,” Vesti reached out to nuzzle his neck. “I… uh… come out here sometimes. I don’t go that close. Just close enough to see the horizon and wonder.” She looked back towards the dark and dangerous sea. She shook her head. Again, the thought struck her.
She didn’t like being lonely. And she didn’t feel lonely with Orhan or El Aran. But mostly with Orhan. There was a difference between camaraderie which she and the alpha mare shared and the other one she and stallion did. She’d never shared this with Badr. At least, not in this more natural way.
“Orhan,” Vesti looked up at the night sky. In the desert, the distance stars always made a beautiful display. They had always been her comfort and guide. The one constant between the sea and shore. “Have… have you ever thought of there being foals in the desert?”
Vesti… what are you doing? Vesti turned an eye to the buckskin. It was an awkward question, but one she wanted an answer to.
She’d decided to try again.
of course i was afraid but i wasn't going to let fear stop me
