Canadian Cougar Paper - The Canada Debate is OVER IP: 50.204.144.106 Posted on February 11, 2015 at 02:13:14 PM by weather01089
A published study of cougar confirmation in Eastern Canada. This is EAST of the previous map of confirmations I posted in that other long thread. This covers Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. You may have to pay for the full copy, but basically there were a large large number of cougar confirmations, and DNA done. They all cluster along the SOUTHERN border of Canada, just a few minutes swim for a cougar from the Northeastern US. Are the US immigration laws stopping them? The DNA showed some with South American DNA in the sequences, and some with North American sequences. This probably means someone's escaped pet at one point interbred with existing or transient population. All these are a VERY short distance from Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. So you can bet regardless of what is being put forth by wildlife agencies on this side of the border, they are there and further south as well. This is about as good as proof gets folks. It includes one road kill. Replies:
