Seeing Helen's recent post, I had to post about a recent article I read about a group doing all kinds of tracking and wildlife research in Michigan. They mentioned the usual wildlife species, but nothing in the post at all about cougars! I commented asking why they didn't list them, or post what the tracks look like, like they did with the other species. They responded with "there are no cougars in the upper peninsula of Michigan" !!!
Well I'm sure you all have read about and maybe even seen the recent pictures of cougars in the upper peninsula. Yes, right after some of the alleged experts were denying there were any there. The hunters said "no way they are here, we are all over and have never seen one, or tracks". Then, the slap in the face came with the first picture. The Michigan DNR wiped the egg off their faces, and came on board. There has since been found evidence of at least a couple of dozen individuals found. So what's with these researchers? Were they under a rock? Among the deniers? Part of Helens group? So be very wary of alleged researchers in Canada if they attempt to say the same thing. All 3 southern provinces bordering the NE US have had a number of confirmations, almost all very near the border. One wildlife expert estimates the provinces contain a population of at least 800 cats. Kittens have been seen, and one unfortunately killed by a car near the US border. To think or say these cats will not go into the US is just plain silly. And yes, now we still get alleged experts that have data a decade old saying there are none there. Replies:
