GOD KNOWS WE LIKE ARCHAIC KINDS OF FUN

You’re not real. Those words fall from her lips and Dixon can feel his heart breaking inside his chest. He is real, he is here. He is reminded of how much pain he must have caused her by just leaving, abandoning her like that when she needed him. He sighs, taking another step closer to her until they are just a couple feet apart. He does not reach out to her, afraid that he might scare her off or upset her. He thinks she might flee, but no, she reaches out to him. He finds himself unable to stop as he, too, reaches for her. Their noses touch and he breathes in shakily. He has missed her so much, and now they are finally together again.

He does not move away as she presses herself against him. Rather, he leans into her slightly, turning his head to press his nose against her cheek. Part of him doesn’t even want to answer that question. He doesn’t want to upset her. But she has a right to know, doesn’t she? He should be honest with her, she doesn’t deserve to be lied to.

At first, he just grunts in response - a noncommital answer. “I dunno, I jus’… went, I guess. Wandered ‘round. Didn’t really find anywhere I liked, so I came back here.” He nuzzles against her cheek, breathing in her heady scent. Gods above, she is really here and they are really together. He fights back a satisfied smile at the thought, quickly changing the subject. “I found a home, fer us. In the Ridge, with a stallion not much older than m’self. He agreed t’let me stay an’ be his second.” His eyes seem to light up at the news, and he gives a hopeful flick of his tail. “Will y’come with me?” He certainly hopes so, he wants nothing more than her safety and happiness, and he hopes she’ll find those things with him in the Ridge.

“I dunno how long y’been out here, or… if maybe ya already have a home, but. If not, I’d really like it if y’came to the Ridge with me.” We could be happy together, he thinks, but the words do not leave his mouth. He’s trying not to get his hopes up. She might have a home and a lover and a new family. He aches at the thought, but doesn’t let himself seem outwardly upset about the possibility. If she is happy, and safe, that is all he wants.
